Little Fockers: Little Fockers starring Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller’s topped the box office weekend with $26.3mn as there was a tough competition with ‘True Grit’ last week. It stood second for the second week collecting $24.5mn.
Little Fockers which was released by Universal collected the over all with $103.2mn while ‘True Grit’ by Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon raised it’s total to $86.8mn. It was the best ever grossing film by the directors’ duo Joel and Ethan Coen. Their previous best grosser was ‘No Country for Old Men’ with $74.3mn.
As there were no new releases this weekend of the New Year, there was no change as they did at Christmas Holidays. ‘Tron: Legacy’ a Sci-Fi sequel by Disney stood at No 3 with $18.3mn and ‘Yogi Bear’ from Warner Bros family flick by Dan Aykroyd’s made fourth with $13mn.
According to the sources, this New Year, Hollywood started slowly due to poor response and Holiday Season. As a result, the gross came down to 28 percent compared to the New Year weekend last year. The overall revenue this weekend of New Year is $158mn.
Lat year, ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’ held up the box office at New Year’s weekend. This year 2011 seems to get the strength back at box-office as there are huge films to be released, such as, ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, ‘Transformers’, ‘Twilight’, ‘Cars’, Kung Fu Panda-2’, ‘X-Men’, and ‘The Hangover’.
Lets hope the year 2011 would be great for Hollywood at Box-Office.
