‘The way Back’ is adapted from the book ‘The Long Walk’ by Slavomir Rawicz. The Way Back is set for release in this week. Peter Weir has directed the movie.
’The Way Back’ is based on a true story of escaped prisoners of World War II who escapes from Siberia gulag. The group of prisoners escaped from Siberian gulag and settled in India crossing the Siberian arctic, the Gobi desert and the Himalayas. They traveled a distance of over four thousand miles completely on foot.
In ‘The Way Back’, Janusz (Jim Sturgess) play as the protagonist, an arrested young Polish soldier on fabricated charges by Soviet authorities. He is sent to North Siberian frozen wastelands for a period of twenty years.
Janusz decides to escaped and confront a group with the same frame of mind with Smith (Ed Harris) an American pilot and an experienced tough criminal Valka (Collin Farrell), who is ruthless and unpredictable, an artist Tomasz (Alexandru Potocean) and a pastor Khabrov (Mark Strong). They manage to escape from Siberia and make it to India.
’The Way Back’ is the first movie of the director Peter Weir since seven years after his magnificent creation ‘Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World’. Peter presents each seen as a different shot and makes one feel seeing a photo album. The score by Burkhard Von Dallwitz is great and gets the audience stick to the seats. The camera work by Russell Boyd is awesome.
