‘Sanctum’, the 3D action thriller from James Cameron, the creator of ‘Avatar’ has hit the theaters last week and the movie has not received much positive reviews. ‘Sanctum’ is directed by Alister Grierson.

’Sanctum’ is all about a group of deep-sea cave divers on a dangerous expedition to the most beautiful, largest and minimum accessible of the cave system on the earth. They encounter a tropical storm and are thrown into deep underground chambers. They have to find out the way out for their survival as they get trapped in a million-year-old cave underneath the sea.

’Sanctum’ looks stunning and impressive as photography of 3D technology has been used for the movie by James Cameron. The settings of deep-sea and the caves is very rich and the photography of 3D has been used from the action sequences to the moments of silence. But, Sanctum fails to use the technology in tricky situations.

The good thing and the asset of ‘Sanctum’, is the inspiration from a true story of writer Andrew Wight and the director, Grierson managed it well at the beginning. The cinematography of Jules O’Loughlin had done a great job with the lens.

The acting of the cast gets drown as it is hardly above the plot. The bad thing is Wakefield as the hero. The scheme dumps the boring team into underwater cave system and exposes them to predictable dangers and a character is turned to villain when it is out of danger from water.

The betraying characters, miserable acting, the script and bit of direction of ‘Sanctum’ makes sure of unpleasant experience, as you find yourself emotionally watching them going round and round.
