‘The Roommate’, a thriller, bests the ‘Sanctum’ to top the weekend box office. Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester are the leads of ‘The Roommate’. Sony has produced ‘The Roommate’ with the cost of $16 millions.
’The Roommate’ was the number one at the weekend box office grossing $15.6 million in its opening week. In ‘The Roommate’, Sara Matthews (Minka Kelly) is the roommate of Rebecca (Leighton Meester). Initially, Sara is obsessed with her new friend and tries to bond and get close to her and turns into a Psycho killer. The movie made an impressive debut.
’The Sanctum’, a 3D thriller by James Cameron and Universal came second with $9.2 million on the weekend and it was rated with a score of C-Plus. Paramount’s romantic comedy, ‘No Strings Attached’ starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman made third grossing $8.4 million and declining it’s total gross by 38 percent in third week.
’The King’s Speech’, the recipient of 12 Academy Award nominations grossed $8.3 million with the 28 percent decline of its total gross by week to week. Domestically, the film has grossed $84 millions. ‘The Rite’, champion of last week grossed only $5.6 million with 62 percent decline.
