Hall Pass is the recent flick by Farrelly brothers released on Oscar weekend. Hall Pass is romantic comedy with lack of humor.
Farrelly brothers tried to carry on their style as their style of comedy has been established with the classic such as ‘Dumb and Dumber’ and ‘There’s Something About Mary’. They tried to stick to their comedy formula which lacked humor.
Owen Wilson (Rick) and Jason Sudeikis (Fred) are two bored friends with their marriage relationships and always look out for other women. Their wives give them a break from their marriage relationships for a week, which means they can see the women they like without any conditions. They allow their husbands thinking that, they will change their behavior and will come back to them. Rick and Fred try to take the chances and fails. They realize and get back to their wives.
The movie lacks fun and the dialogues are pretty crude. It lacks to focus on long time relationships and instead it fakes marriage. Owen and Jason fail to generate laughs. The characters of Fischer and Applegate also lack humor but did a decent work in their roles. The script failed to hold the plot.
Unfortunately, the Farrelly brothers failed to reach the depth of comedy and humor, though they are skilled of their comic style. This raises the question, if they have lost their touch.
