Mel Gibson’s the Beaver Fails in Box Office

Irrespective of the expectations, The Beaver has not gone well in the box office debut. Mel Gibson’s ‘The Beaver’, directed by Jodie Foster has grossed $104,000 collected from 22 screens in its opening weekend.

After the whole menace that happened last year, Mel Gibson thought that his career would make a come back strongly if he gives a strong performance in an indie film. But the movie has the kind of publicity that most art house films only dream of. The movie failed to deliver its ease, simultaneously had to be disappointed in the top markets. Summit has estimated that the movie could gross at least $15,000 to $18,000 range per screen, on an average. Unfortunately, the per-screen average was just only $4,745.

The Beaver did nearly a double business at Arclight Hollywood with $12,357 gross and at Landmark with gross of $12,051. Following this, the next top-grossing theatres were AMC’s Lincoln Square 13 with $6,700 and at Regal’s Union Square Stadium at a gross of $6,382 in New York City. Here, the main interesting thing is that Mel Gibson’s The Beaver did its biggest business in Los Angeles, the place where he is debatably the most controversial.

Besides this gross sheet, Cannes Film Festival and Summit are planning to take ‘The Beaver’ into the additional United States cities on May 20th. The executive of Summit, Richie Fay has stated that he thinks the people will try to read into these numbers and say it is a repudiation of Mel, but he doesn’t think that it is completely true.
