John Walker of Walker Brothers Dies with Liver Cancer

The Musician, John Walker, one of the founders of the 1960s group, ‘The Walker Brothers’, died at his home in Los Angeles. The reason for his death has been stated that he was battling with liver cancer since six months. John Walker was aged at 67.

On his personal website, a statement was written quoting that it is with their deepest sadness to report that Mr. John Walker passed away in his Los Angeles home on May 7th, 2011. John Walker was born in New York City in 1943 and was raise in the Los Angeles. Apart from working as an actor and session musician, he formed ‘The Walker Brothers’.

However, ‘The Walker Brothers’ were not actually brothers, nor named Walker in real life. But, it enjoyed a great success in Britain than in their native United States. Apart from John Walker, the other members of ‘The Walker Brothers’ are Neol Scott Engel and Gary Leeds; but eventually known as Scott Walker and Gary Walker respectively.

Altogether, they have topped in the UK charts with the covers of ‘Make It Easy on Yourself’ and ‘The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore’. These two songs clinched at No. 16 and No. 13 respectively.  John role as the lead vocalist was gradually taken over by Scott Walker.

During 1964, they formed in Hollywood and later moved to London where they secured a recording contract. The soul singer, Jerry Butler is solely responsible for popularizing the version of Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s ‘Make It Easy on Yourself’, which was released in 1965. In addition, ‘The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore’ was first sung by Frankie Valli that has come out the following year.

Gary Walker stated that John was also a fantastic guitarist where lot of people doesn’t know. He continued saying that John was a compassionate song-writer and a gentleman with lots of style. Gary added that the three of them had the most incredible adventure together, but not realizing that they were part of pop history in the making. He quoted that John Walker’s music will live on and therefore so will John.
