The director of British documentary Unlawful Killing was the focal point of attention for the media at the Cannes Film Festival 2011 on Friday. The makers claim that the movie throws the light on the circumstances surrounding the death of Diana, The Princess of Wales in 1997.
During the media conference after its premiere, the director Keith Allen was continuously questioned to explain about what new evidence he believes the film contains. Keith disagreed with the suggestions he should have made it clear on the screen that the film has been funded by the businessman Mohamed Al Fayed.
Mohamed Al Fayed’s spokesman, Conor Nolan said that the former owner of Harrods invested £2.5 million in the documentary. Fayed’s son, Dodi was killed in the crash as well as Henri Paul. A sole survivor of the crash, Trevor Rees-Jones was not featured in the film. However, the film is likely a documentary that can be seen on Television.
Allen was asked to explain about the new film. He replied that he doesn’t believe there is too much that is new. He added that there is an old saying that the best kept secrets are on the shelves at the British Library. Allen said that if we take all the information and put it into a certain shape then two plus two starts to make four. He concluded that he has used available information but he has put it in a certain way.
Keith Allen said that he hopes that the documentary will still be shown in the United Kingdom. Although British lawyers have suggested that a number of editorial changes would have to be made, it may feature at this year’s London Film Festival.
