Ed Westwick to star as Tybalt in ‘Romeo and Juliet’

Ed Westwick has been confirmed to play the character of Tybalt in the upcoming Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy ‘Romeo and Juliet’ directed by Carlo Carlei.

The ‘Gossip Girl’ star, Ed Westwick has been reportedly confirmed to play the character of Tybalt in the upcoming movie ‘Romeo and Juliet’, a romantic tragedy of Shakespeare. As per the reports, Ed is in negotiations.

The upcoming movie ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is the new version of the original, with the same name, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, directed by Baz Luhrman in the year 1996. The character of Tybalt was played by John Leguizamo. It seems that, the role of Tybalt could be seen killing Mercutio and will die, after he is attacked by Romeo.

Westwick will star opposite Hailee Steinfeld, the star of ‘True Grit’, a hot-tempered cousin. She will be playing the female lead role ‘Juliet’ in the movie. Holy Hunter has been recently cast for the movie, to play the role of a nurse.

Carlo Carlei of ‘Flight of the Innocent’ and ‘Fluke’ will direct the upcoming Shakespeare’s adaptation. Julian Fellowes will provide the script of the movie, who has earlier worked for ‘Gosford Park’.

The actor has to be cast yet, to play the lead role of Romeo in the movie, as there are no details or news been revealed. Once the cast of Romeo is done, it would not take much time to start the project.

However, the filming of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is expected to begin this summer in Italy.
