Orlando Bloom has joined the cast of the Peter Jackson’s movie, ‘Hobbit’. However, Orlando’s character, the elf Legolas did not appear in the J.R.R.Tolkien’s original novel. The news has been out when Jackson has announced this through Facebook.

Peter Jackson said that ten years ago Orlando Bloom has created an iconic character with his portrayal of Legolas. He added that he was excited to announce that they all will be revisiting Middle Earth with him once more. He was thrilled to be working with Orlando again. Currently, Peter Jackson has been directing the two-movie adaption in New Zealand.

The movie, Hobbit has been in the works since 14 years. It has faced a series of setbacks. During 2005, Peter Jackson has filed a suit against New Line Cinema claiming that he has lost revenue from merchandising, computer games and video releases associated with ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ and said that he was no longer attached to ‘The Hobbit’.

Later, after three years the director Guillermo del Toro has signed the project but has dropped out in May 2012, for the reason of scheduling conflicts. Peter Jackson again came back and was confirmed as director in October 2012 but has relocated the filming to Europe from New Zealand due to union disputes. In January last, he underwent an ulcer surgery which delayed the shooting further.

On March, the announcement was made by him that the shooting had begun in Wellington, New Zealand. He has also posted two pictures of him, hanging at the sets of the movie. In addition to Orlando as Legolas, the other cast are Cate Blanchett playing the role of Galadriel, Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Andy Serkis as Golum, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, Elijah Wood as Frodo and Ian Holm as Bilbo. The first of the two parts will be scheduled to hit the theaters on December 2012. However, both the movies will be in 3D, the second will kick off on a year later in 2013.
