JT Holmes Wingsuit Flying for Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon

Lake Tahoe-based pro skier, JT Holmes has been working for past four months as a wingsuiting stuntman for the highly anticipated movie, ‘Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon’ which will be premiered on June 28th. JT Holmes said that it is the best stunt he has ever had in his life.

JT Holmes worked for the unforgettable 45 days of training jumps including two weeks of shooting on the location in Chicago. Here, he has plummeted from the roofs of the city’s tallest skyscrapers namely, 1,451 foot Willis and 1,362 foot Trump. He flew like an airborne Spiderman as stunned pedestrians pointed, caught and shouted it all on the video from the streets which is a quarter-mile down to him.

Besides Holmes, who was being filmed with the real cameras and the heavy 3-D rig, Julian Boulle of South Africa has also joined him. Holmes said that Julian is the best wingsuiter in the world who can fly in excess of 100 mph. They were also united by three members of the Red Bull Air Force namely, Jon DeVore, Andy Farrington and Mike Swanson.

The 31-year-old Holmes said that it was surreal. He told that he could actually see inside the buildings through windows and look at the guy’s desk is messy. He said that when he is flying next to cliff, it is not perfectly sheer. He added that there are bushed sticking out, rock ledges, but with a building, it is straight down and totally sheer.

Holmes explained that they were unable to fly very close safely. He said that they were times when the building was two or three feet away from his left hand. In addition to seven helicopter jumps for him and his stunt mates, they plunged off the Willis Tower four times and the Trump Tower twice.

It was Michael Bay, the director of ‘Armageddon’, ‘Pearl Harbor’ and ‘The Rock’ has seen JT Holmes in ’60 Minutes’ in the fall of 2009. He then was fascinated and called the producer Steven Spielberg of ‘Transformers’ to look upon having wingsuit flying scenes in the next film.
