James Mangold is in negotiations to direct the upcoming sequel ‘The Wolverine’ with Hugh Jackman in the lead role.
20th Century Fox is in final negotiations with James Mangold, the director of ‘Knight and Day’ to direct the upcoming sequel ‘The Wolverine’. Hugh Jackman will play the title role in the movie. James was also the choice of Hugh and Fox Studios.
James Mangold, stepped into the chair to helm the most awaited project, after Darren Aronofsky of ‘Black Swan’ has walked out of the project. He was also the part of short listed directors including Justin Lin of ‘Fast Five’ and Doug Liman of ‘The Bourne Legacy’, which was reported last month.
James has the credits of directing ‘Walk the Line’, ‘3:10 to Yuma’ and ‘Girl, Interrupted’. He would now direct ‘The Wolverine’ with the same script written by Christopher McQuarrie, who earlier worked for ‘Valkyrie’ starring Tom Cruise. If the deal is closed with him directing the movie, it would not take much time to start its filming.
The plot of ‘The Wolverine’ will focus on the time of Wolverine in Japan, which is a follow-up to ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ of 2009. James also directed the stars like Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz in action comedy ‘Knight and Day’, which was released last year.
The filming of ‘The Wolverine’ is expected to start in autumn and is set to release in 2012.
