‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Topped US Weekend Box Office

The ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ has topped the US weekend box office and clinched the top spot on its debut weekend.

The recently released movie ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’, has topped the US weekend box office, on its debut weekend, which surpassed the estimations of the studio. It grossed $54 million in its three-day-screening, which is a pretty good number for a summer action flick.

Now, the Rupert Wyatt directed sc-fi action flick has been placed in 10th place, which is one of the top 15 weekend openers since last April, ahead of ‘Green Lantern’ with $53.2 million and a step behind ‘X-Men: First Class’ with $55.1.

It is being trialed by animated flick ‘The Smurfs’ dropped one place to second position earning $21 million. Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford starrer slipped to third place from first place with $15.7 million. Last weekend, it jointly topped the chart with ‘The Smurfs’.

Another new entry, a R-rated comedy ‘The Change-Up’ starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman in the lead roles is in fourth place with $13.5 million, while ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ is in fifth place with $13 million.
