20th Century Fox and DreamWorks are getting together to split the risk on an original concept. Post summer vacation, the majors loaded up on sequels and safe bets. Fox has come forward to co-finance Steven Spielberg’s ‘Robopocalypse’ that may be filmed in 3D. However, the plan of the partners is to wind the picture in summer 2013. Simultaneously, ‘Iron Man 3’, ‘The Fast and the Furious 6’, ‘Thor 2’, ‘Monsters Inc. 2’ and ‘Despicable Me 2’ will surely be studded in the multiplexes.

Steven Spielberg’s ‘Robopocalypse’ is a sci-fi epic that has been adapted from Daniel H. Wilson’s novel by scribe Drew Goddard. The movie centres on the fate of the human race after a robot uprising DreamWorks acquired the rights to Wilson’s unpublished domestically manuscript in November 2009. However, the title was released by Doubleday in last June.

Besides this, Disney will distribute ‘Robopocalypse’ domestically through its Touchstone label and on the other hand Fox will handle the international territories. However, the companies will be sharing the worldwide theatrical revenues equally. Steven has developed the script along with DreamWorks co-chairman and CEO Stacey Snider. Aggressively, Fox has been tracking the project for quite a long time and enticed by Spielberg’s heft behind an original event film. In addition to this Fox Studios is also eyeing the movie as its big anchor movie for 2013 and it will unspool July 4 weekend on a day-and-date basis in most territories.

One of the close executive has said that it feels to them in a world of events and it is an uber event. Steven Spielberg and Fox Studios came close in doing a remake of the 1950 Jimmy Stewart film ‘Harvey’, last year. Unfortunately the stars did not align on the casting front. Earlier, They have also a film relationship in 2002’s ‘Minority Report’ that has grossed nearly $300 million worldwide. Recently, the ambitious dino-drama ‘Terra Nova’ is through the 20th Century Fox in which Steven is executive producing with Peter Chernin.
