The family movie ‘Dolphin Tale’ has topped the North American weekend box office, in its second week and has dethroned ‘Lion King 3D’ from the top place.The ‘Dolphin Tale’ directed by Charles Smith took the top place from the ‘Lion King 3D’ and has grossed $14.2 million in its three-day screening. Also, it has accumulated its total gross to $37.5 million, in its ten-day screening so far. The original budget of the movie was $37 million. It managed to occupy the top place at North American box office, despite its ticket sales have dipped by 27%, compared to the last week. It received an A+ CinemaScore.
The ‘Dolphin Tale’ was followed by Brad Pitt starrer “Moneyball’, in second place continuously for the second week. It dropped the ticket sales by 37% and managed to gross $12.5 million and added its total gross to $38.5 million. ‘The Lion King 3D’ dropped to third place, after being on top for two weeks and grossed $11.1 million with its total gross of $79.7 million.
A new entry ‘50/50’, a drama movie, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the lead role, based on the real story has debuted in fourth place with $8.9 million. However, the Jonathan Levine directed movie did not do as expected. Another new entry ‘Courageous’ with A+ CinemaScore is in fifth place with $8.8 million. The movie managed to 53% of the females among its total audience.
