’Real Steel’ with Hugh Jackman in the lead role has topped the North American Weekend box office for the consecutive straight week.
The robot boxing family movie ‘Real Steel’, which has topped the North American weekend box office in its debut week, has also topped for the second week on a stretch. It remained at top with $16.3 million, despite it has dropped the ticket sales by 40% compared to last week. However, it has totaled the cumulative gross of $51.7 million, in its two weeks of release. Dave Hollis, the distribution executive vice president of Disney said that, the families have been targeted and it has proved in the success of the movie ‘Real Steel’.
A new entry ‘Footloose’ a dance based movie has debuted in the second place behind ‘Real Steel’ with $16.1 million. However, it did not reach the expectations, as it was expected to cover the entire movie budget of $24 million in its first week. The movie has received an ‘A’ CinemaScore. It managed to attract 75% of female audience. Another new entry ‘The Thing’ debuted in third place, by grossing $8.7 million. But, Universal Pictures expected the movie to be grossing around $10 million. It received a CinemaScore of ‘B-‘.
George Clooney starrer political drama ‘The Ides of March’ managed fourth place with 7.5 million, which added its cumulative gross of $22 million from its two-week screening, while ‘Dolphin Tale’ managed fifth place with $6.3 million and added its cumulative total of $58.7 million among the top five movies at North American box office.
