The R-rated horror ‘Paranormal Activity 3’ has successfully topped the North American box office on its debut weekend. The third movie from the ‘Paranormal Activity’ franchise, the horror movie has surpassed the expectations by earning an estimated $54 million and has made as the best opening of all time for a horror movie.
The horror sequel also scored as the biggest October debut ever by knocking down the last year’s ‘Jackass 3D’ that has grossed $50.4 million. The paranormal movie has appealed to mostly younger audience with 53% of them being under the age of 25. The vice chairman of Paramount Pictures, Rob Moore has praised the directors and producers of ‘Paranormal Activity 3’ for doing a great job by making the movie hit. He added that the fourth movie is currently on works and he believes that the people certainly continue to be very interested in the franchise.
On the other hand, after being champ for two weeks consecutively, ‘Real Steel’ has dropped his position to second with around $11.3 million. ‘Footloose’ is on the third place that has grossed $10.8 million for total cume of $30.9 million. Orlando Bloom and Milla Jovovich’s ‘The Three Musketeers’ has landed on number four on its opening weekend with $8.8 million gross and ‘The Ideas of March’ settles at fifth position with $4.9 million gross.
