Benicio Del Toro has been allegedly offered to play the villain role in the forthcoming untitled ‘Star Trek’ sequel, though the role has been not decided.
The ‘Super 8’ director JJ Abrams has eyed to rope in Benicio Del Toro to play the villain role in the upcoming movie ‘Star Trek 2’ and is believed to offer the role to him. However, the reports suggest that, it is not sure which character would he play in the movie, despite the rumors of him playing the bad guy role. It was also reported that, the Oscar winning actor has met Abrams to talk about the role.
Del Toro has bagged an Oscar award for his role of Javier Rodriguez in the 2000s movie ‘Traffic’. He will also next be seen in the recent complete production movie ‘Savages’ directed by Oliver Stone. The role of Del Toro in ‘Star Trek’ sequel is believed to be an effort of keeping it under wraps. The untitled sequel is expected to start its production early 2012. However, the release date has not yet been set, as it was previously scheduled to hit the US theaters on June 29, 2012.
As per the sources, the Paramount Pictures have pulled back the release date, in order to provide ample time for the scribers Roberto Orci, Damon Lindelof and Alex Kurtzman to give the proper shine to the script of the movie. Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto have been set to return to reprise their roles as James T. Kirk, Nyota Uhura and Spock respectively. Besides, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Karl Urban as Bones, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu and Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov will join the cast of the movie.
