’Immortals’ has topped the US weekend box office, overtaking the movies of the top stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Adam Sandler.
’Immortals’ the recently released Greek myth movie directed by Tarsem Singh has topped the North American weekend box office by grossing $32 million in its three-day screening. The R-rated movie gained the ‘B’ CinemaScore and has been produced with a budget of $75 million and drove 60% of male with 75% of them being under the age of 35. Kyle Davies the Relativity Media distribution president said that, the movie has exceeded the expectations.
The movie ‘Immortals’ was followed by Adam Sandler starrer ‘Jack and Jill’ in the second position in its debut week. The comedy movie has grossed $26 million and drew 53% of family audience to the theaters. Rory Bruer, the Sony Pictures president of Worldwide Distribution said that, they are in good shape and no one than Adam Sandler could get better multiples. ‘Puss in Boots’ that has topped the US weekend box office for two straight weeks, has slipped to the third position with $25.5 million, dropping by just 3% of its ticket sales.
The animated movie directed by Chris Miller, now has earned a total domestic cumulative gross of $103 million in its three-week screening in the United States theaters. Meanwhile, Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy and Casey Affleck starrer comedy flick has secured fourth place with $13.2 million and has totaled its cumulative gross to $43.9 million in its ten-day screening in the United States Cinemas. However, the ‘Titanic’ star Leonardo DiCaprio starrer biopic movie ‘J. Edgar’ has debuted in fifth position with $11.4 million. The Clint Eastwood directed movie has scored a ‘B’ CinemaScore and the movie has attracted 94% of viewers above the age of 25.
