2011 Soul Train Awards: Rihanna, Beyonce, Chris, Nicki wins big

The 2011 Soul Train Awards has been taped on 17th November at Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA. The Soul Train Awards was finally aired on last Sunday, on 27th November on BET and the winners of the night were Rihanna, Beyonce Knowles, Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj.

Rihanna has won ‘Best Caribbean Performance’ for her single ‘Man Down’. The Barbados singer had to give up her chance to win Best Dance Performance. Rihanna lost it to Beyonce who additionally beat Breezy, Kelly Rowland, Mary Mary and Keri Hilson.

Chris Brown has scored a total of five nominations where he avoided coming home empty-handed as he claimed ‘Album of the Year prize’. His CD ‘F.A.M.E.’ pushed aside Beyonce’s ‘4’, Trey Songz’s ‘Passion, Pain & Pleasure’, Adele’s ‘21’, Jill Scott’s ‘The Light of the Sun’, and Jay-Z & Kanye West’s ‘Watch the Throne’. However, the other winners at star-studded celebration included Miguel for ‘Best New Artist’, Cee-Lo Green for ‘Best Male R&B and Soul’, Mary Mary for ‘Best Gospel Performance’, Kelly Rowland for ‘Song of the Year’, and Marsha Ambrosius for ‘Record of the Year’.

Besides handing awards, the event also paid homage to Heavy D. The late rapper was remembered by his close pals Naughty by Nature, Doug E. Fresh, Kurtis Blow and Goodie Mob.

  • Best Male R&B and Soul: Cee-Lo Green
  • Best Caribbean Performance: Rihanna – “Man Down”
  • Best Gospel Performance: Mary Mary – “Walking”
  • Album of the Year: Chris Brown – “F.A.M.E.”
  • Best Hip-Hop Song: Nicki Minaj – “Moment for Life”
  • Best Female R&B and Soul Artist: Jill Scott
  • Song of the Year: Kelly Rowland – “Motivation”
  • Record of the Year (Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award): Marsha Ambrosius – “Far Away”
  • Best Dance Performance: Beyonce Knowles – “Run the World (Girls)”
  • Best Traditional Jazz Album: Cassandra Wilson
  • Best Contemporary Jazz Album: Dave Koz
