‘New Year’s Eve’ Tops US Weekend Box Office

"New Year’s Eve US Box Office"’New Year Eve’ a romantic comedy movie has topped the US weekend box office and over took ‘Breaking Dawn Part 1’ in its opening week.

The star-studded romantic comedy flick ‘New Year’s Eve’ has topped the US weekend box office grossing $13.7 million, in its three-day screening. However, it has marked as the lowest opening of 2011. It did not reach its mark, as it was expected to gross $20 million on its first weekend. The movie directed by Garry Marshall has received a B+ CinemaScore.

On the gross of ‘New Year’s Eve’ Dan Fellman, the president of domestic distribution of Warner Bros. Pictures said that, the box office was in a bad shape. They are still No.1 in soft market. He further said that, there were not enough moviegoers and the only thing expected is the big films over Christmas next weekend, which would help to pick up the pace.

’New Year’s Eve’ is followed by new entry ‘The Sitter’ in the second place grossing $10 million in its debut weekend. The less than $25 million budget movie starring Jonah Hill, has done good work as per its pre-weekend prediction. ‘Breaking Dawn Part 1’ which ruled the US weekend box office for three weeks slipped to the third place with $7.9 million with 52% drop in ticket sales from last weekend and added its total cumulative to $259.6. It’s predecessor ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ grossed $267.3 million in the same time of the year.

’The Muppets’ has occupied forth place grossing $7 million with 36% drop from the last weekend. It has collected $65.2 million from its three-week screening. Rounding up the top 5 movie is ‘Arthur Christmas’ grossing $6.6 million with 11% dropping of ticket sales from the last week and has totaled its cumulative gross to $33.5 million.
