’Safe House’ has topped the US weekend box office, outclassing its opponents during the President’s Day weekend.
’The Safe’ which was in the second place last week has embarked to the top place on the US weekend box office. It surpassed the last week’s topper ‘The Vow’ Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams starrer romantic movie. Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds starrer action flick has dominated the US box office during the President’s Day weekend by grossing $23.8 million, with 40% dip in ticket sales compared to the last week.
The Daniel Espinosa directed movie that has also surpassed the new releases like ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ and ‘This Means War’, has so far earned a domestic gross of $78.3 million. ‘Safe House’ is trailed by the last week topped ‘The Vow’ in the second place grossing $23.1 million. Its total domestic gross so far is $85.5 million, since it has been released on February 10, 2012. In the third place, is the new entry ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’. The Nicolas Cage starrer has grossed $22.1 million in its three-day weekend.
However, the gross of the recent film ‘Ghost Rider 2’ is 52% lower than the ‘Ghost Rider’ that has grossed $45.4 million in the year 2007. The movie has received a ‘C+’ CinemaScore with 61% of male audience with 48% being under the age 25. ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’ is in the fourth place with $19.9 million, with 27% drop from last week. Another new entry ‘This Means War’ has debuted in fifth place with $17.3 million from its three-day screening with ‘A-‘CinemaScore.
