’Writers Guild America Awards 2012’ winners in movies have been announced, with ‘The Descendants’ and ‘Midnight in Paris’ emerging as the top honor winners.

The Writers Guild of America has announced the winners of its ‘Writers Guild Awards 2012’ on Sunday, February 19, 2012, which was held simultaneously at both the ceremonies at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and at B.B. King Blues Club in New York City. At the ’Writers Guild America Awards 2012’, ‘The Descendants’ and ‘Midnight in Paris’ became the winners of top honors at WGA Awards 2012.

’The Descendants’ won the ‘Best Adapted Screenplay’ award for Alexander Payne along with Jim Rash and Nat Faxon. Meanwhile, ‘Midnight in Paris’ won the ‘Best Original Screenplay’ award for Woody Allen. It is the fifth award overall for Allen, while the third award for Payne at ‘Writers Guild of America’ Awards. In the category of ‘Best Documentary Screenplay’ the award was won by Katie Galloway and Kelly Duane de la Vega’ for their work in ‘Better This World’, who faced the competitors like ‘Senna’, ‘Nostalgia for the Light’, ‘Pina’ and ‘If a Tree Falls’.

Surprisingly, several Oscar nominated movies such as ‘The Artist’, ‘Margin Call’ and ‘A Separation’ for ‘Best Original Screenplay’, while ‘The Ides of March’ and ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’ for ‘Best adapted Screenplay’ have not been picked. However, Tate Taylor the writer and director of ‘The Help’ has been awarded with Paul Selvin award, while Eric Roth the veteran screenwriter was given Laurel Award.
