Jessica Sanchez started off rock solid with the late Whitney Houston’s version of “I Will Always Love You” on the national stage during tonight’s American Idol “guys vs. girls” performance round.
Sanchez and Hollie Cavanagh’s performances turned them into favorites and all the girls followed Jessica by singing Whitney Houston hits, while Hollie, looking for the entire world like a modern-day Dusty Springfield, also gave a complete performance of All the Man That I Need.
Followed by Skylar Laine pulling in Where Do Broken Hearts Go into a finely nuanced Reba McEntire-style ballad and another great performance from Erika Van Pelt on I Believe in You and Me. However Elise Testone and Shannon Magrane got into insecure point going into Thursday’s results show, as both struggled to get comfortable with their song choice.
Guys did not let themselves down they kept the pace equally Joshua Ledet, Jermaine Jones, Colton Dixon, DeAndre Brackensick and Phillip Phillips were on fire during their performances on stage. While Jeremy Rosado and Heejun Han both struggled to give their ballads the voices they deserved.
This year American Idol has something for the first elimination, On Thursday’s show, host Ryan Seacrest will announce the guy and the girl who got the least votes, after which the judges will select whom to stay and which one goes.
