The granddaughter of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II Zara Phillips is expecting a baby with her husband Mike Tindall in the new year Buckingham Palace has announced this morning.
The birth will follow the keenly anticipated arrival of the Prince William’s baby, which is expected in the coming days
The Olympic silver medalist, Zara married the England rugby player Mike Tindall at Canongate Kirk, in Edinburgh, in July 2011, just a few months after Prince William and Kate Middleton’s lavish wedding earlier that April. She is the second child and only daughter of Princess Anne and Capt. Mark Phillips. The child will be Anne’s third grandchild, as her son, Peter Phillips, has two daughters.
Peter Phillips said: “Everyone is delighted, really really happy for everyone and for both of them.”
“Mr. and Mrs. Mike Tindall are very pleased to announce that Zara Tindall is expecting a baby in the new year,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
“The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, Mr. Phillip and Mrs. Linda Tindall, and members of both families are delighted with the news. This baby will be the first child for Mike and Zara and the third grandchild for the Princess Royal.”
Despite her pregnancy, 32-year-old Zara has continued to compete in punishing equestrian events. On Saturday she took part in the Barbury International Horse Trials near Swindon, where she was cheered on by her brother Peter Phillips.
The Tindalls were also guests in the royal box at Wimbledon last week
